How to Downsize your School Bag

Step 1

Turn this....

into THIS!

Stop carrying around that huge bag! Do you really need to carry around all of your makeup and beauty supplies in your bag? How do men get around without this huge anomaly?

Hi reader, meet the wristlet purse. You can store your cellphone, money, cards, and even some pads in a single easy to carry wristlet. If you absolutely must have your makeup and beauty supplies, I suggest keeping them in your car.

Note: Don't have a car? Many schools offer lockers for $5 a semester. If lockers aren't your thing, then perhaps its time you downsize the number of supplies you are carrying around with you (3 lip glosses?) and move onto a smaller bag. Try to be as minimalistic as possible.

Step 2

Do you really need to carry around all of your notes and all of your class work to EVERY class? Thats a big fat NO! For most of us we only need to store away class notes, finished homework, and homework given in class that day. Take the time to find these tabbed folders at Staples or Office Depot. You will fall in love with them once you realize how light and easy to use they are. Label each tab with something like "Homework In", "Homework Out", and "Class Notes" on the first, second, and third tab respectively.

I didn't forget your old notes/class work. Keep a large binder at home to store away all of your finished notes, class work, tests, and homework. So everyday (or every other day) take the papers from your tabbed folder and put them away into the at home binder.

Step 3

You do not need to carry multiple notebooks to school every day. Nor do you need to fill each one of your binders with 1/2 inch high stack of papers. For most of the year these papers will just be taking up precious space and add to the amount of weight you are carrying. I suggest using a flat elastic folder with 1/4 high stack of papers that you carry around with you for all classes. When it runs out, replenish it at home. I did this last year and I never had to replenish it!

Many college students are only taking 2-3 classes a day max. A small book bag could easily hold 2 school books, 2 slim folders (from step 2), 1 elastic band folder (from step 3), and even a pencil case. Why carry around a bulky book bag?
Hate going to the bathroom with your giant purse? Well no worries because all you  need to carry to "el bano' is the little wristlet purse from step one. Leave this small book bag in class.

Note: For laptop users, I'd recommend a hybrid laptop bag. A bag that has both a compartment for your laptop and for your school books like this (http://www.laptoppicker.com/archives/designed-by-women-for-women-stylish-new-mobile-edg.html). The idea is to not let any space in your bag be empty. Low on cash? Work those shoulders, you're going to have to stick with the good ol'  backpack.

Step 5

You don't need to create a museum's worth of pen's and pencils inside of your pencil case. One red, black, and blue pen should suffice. Don't place your whole pack of Ticonderoga pencils into your pencil case either. Two pencils is fine. One for writing and one as a backup. Same rule applies for erasers, mechanical pencils ect. Basically, don't put all of your backups into your pencil case. Leave those backups at home!
